Hi. I’m Danielle.

I am a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and the owner and founder of Woodstar Counselling and Consulting. I created this practice to reflect my passion for people, nature, and creative expression and to help meet a growing need for mental health and counselling services. Growing up in rural south western Ontario, I was always creating- painting, crafting, singing, and taking photos of everything from every angle until I got just the right shot. But I decided to pursue a career in social work after falling in love with the science of the mind and seeing the power of relationships.

After obtaining my honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master of Social Work degree (Wilfrid Laurier University ‘09, ‘12), I worked in southern Ontario for a short time before my family and I relocated to the beautiful northern Ontario city of Sault Ste. Marie. This is our home- the place where we have put down roots and I am so proud to be contributing to this growing community. For more about how my experiences have shaped who I am and how I practice, check out the videos here.

I have experience working in a variety of social service and healthcare settings (read more here) using a variety of modalities to help people like you find hope and healing. I use an integrative approach in my work, meaning that I use a variety of tools and therapeutic techniques to help you organize your thoughts and feelings and make changes in your life and relationships. My primary perspective is from a trauma-informed lens, using Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to help facilitate healing and growth. I also use strategies from other modalities as needs arise, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Research has shown that beyond any specific kind of therapy technique or modality, the most important factor in counselling success is the relationship (or “fit”) between the counsellor and the client. So please check out my website and social media pages, or feel free to reach out to me directly to see if you think we might be a good fit.

Let’s get you started on your journey to a fulfilling, thriving life.
